A Runner is Born

Hey there. Thanks for visiting, it’s great to have you here. In case you don’t know me, here’s a bit about me and how I came to be a “runner”. (I still feel a bit embarrassed saying I’m a runner as I feel like a fraud or a wannabe). I’ve been running for about three years; I did occasionally run before then but it was a couple of miles that felt like a marathon. I think I became a runner when I moved to Sileby, Leicestershire and decided to join a running club to make new friends and keep fit.

It was July 2015 that I joined Sileby Running Club. After a bit of Facebook stalking and thinking they looked like a friendly bunch I decided to go along on Ladies Night. I instantly recognised the Triathlete girl, Zoe who was warming up around Tesco Car Park and I joined her. She was super welcoming as were the rest of the lovely ladies.

Captain Judi said we’d be running “The Humbles” and there were a few groans. Zoe led the way and I panted just behind her until we reached the top of the infamous Humbles. Not far behind was the beautiful (and slightly red faced) Lauren with her long legs and striking blonde hair. Lauren’s words were something like “You’re not new to running, I think you’re a marathon runner”.  Absolutely not, my longest run was 8 miles at it was once! After chatting in the car park after the run I was absolutely buzzing and there it happened – I caught the running bug.

Sileby Running Club (SRC) soon introduced me to long run Sundays and I went from 8 miles to 16 miles and it felt amazing. I think I knew then that distance running would be my calling. At lot has happened since then but I’ll save that for another time.
